The this year's Supercomputing Conference (SC13) takes place from the 16th till 22nd November 2013 in Denver. More than 10,000 scientists, users, vendors and decision makers as well as more than 350 exhibitors attend the most important international conference on high performance computing that celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. DKRZ, looking back on 26 years of climate computing, invites visitors to go on a journey back in time through 25 years of DKRZ at its booth (number 329).

Making way for a new era

Program Analysis and Tuning Workshop on August 5./6., 2013
Within the efforts of DKRZ to support its users in the efficient use of its supercomputing systems, DKRZ offered a Program Analysis and Tuning Workshop on the 5th and 6th of August 2013 at DKRZ in Hamburg. It was organized by the DKRZ team together with experts in tool-development from the Jülich Supercomputing Centre and from TU Dresden.
Increase in energy efficiency at the DKRZ
The DKRZ has been optimizing its energy efficiency since 2011, as electricity has become a major cost factor, valued at nearly 1.85 million euros for 2011 alone.
25th anniversary of DKRZ
The German Climate Computing Center was founded on the 11th of November, 1987, and started operations as a dedicated high performance computing center on the 1st of January, 1988. Throughout the last 25 years, DKRZ's high performance computing systems, archiving capacities and its services proved as an indispensable base for the German climate research community and hence contributed to its excellent reputation worldwide.

From the Past into the Future: New Climate Simulations for Science and Society
Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ) have carried out new climate simulations using MPI-M’s new climate model. First results of the simulations, which represent the German contribution to the next IPCC Assessment Report AR5, as well as an introduction on how to use the data will be presented on 23/24 February 2012 in Hamburg.
Extreme Weather Congress April 12-15, 2011: DKRZ exhibit
