Making way for a new era

The demolition of the so-called pavilion of DKRZ and MPI-M in the Bundesstrasse 55 makes way for the re-building and extension of the University of Hamburg around the Geomatikum.

Program Analysis and Tuning Workshop on August 5./6., 2013

Within the efforts of DKRZ to support its users in the efficient use of its supercomputing systems, DKRZ offered a Program Analysis and Tuning Workshop on the 5th and 6th of August 2013 at DKRZ in Hamburg. It was organized by the DKRZ team together with experts in tool-development from the Jülich Supercomputing Centre and from TU Dresden.

Increase in energy efficiency at the DKRZ

The DKRZ has been optimizing its energy efficiency since 2011, as electricity has become a major cost factor, valued at nearly 1.85 million euros for 2011 alone.

25th anniversary of DKRZ

The German Climate Computing Center was founded on the 11th of November, 1987, and started operations as a dedicated high performance computing center on the 1st of January, 1988. Throughout the last 25 years, DKRZ's high performance computing systems, archiving capacities and its services proved as an indispensable base for the German climate research community and hence contributed to its excellent reputation worldwide.

From the Past into the Future: New Climate Simulations for Science and Society

Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ) have carried out new climate simulations using MPI-M’s new climate model. First results of the simulations, which represent the German contribution to the next IPCC Assessment Report AR5, as well as an introduction on how to use the data will be presented on 23/24 February 2012 in Hamburg.
