The aim of the online event was to introduce the 52 invited programmers and scientists, all of them with a background of ML topics in and around the DKRZ, to ongoing or planned projects as well as the upcoming hardware infrastructure. In addition, current topics on ML pipelines and the latest ML developments in the field of earth system sciences were presented.

The workshop showed that ML methods in Earth system research have progressed beyond the nursery stage and have become now more and more part of scientific, but above all climate science research. There is therefore a great need among scientists for appropriate training courses - especially with regard to the upcoming high-performance computer "Levante". During the workshop even new collaborations were initiated.

Further workshops are therefore planned in the future, which then will be open to all interested people.
