In this simulation, the summer sea ice, represented in light blue, would continue to experience losses, while in the winter season (sea ice maximum), the sea ice coverage would only slightly be affected by the end of this century. This means that there would no longer be multi-annual sea ice. For the time from 2100-2300, MPI-ESM projects a continued reduction in the regular winter sea ice expansion, with the summer ice not returning at all.
