27.08.2020

The kick-off talk will be presented on September, 1st, 2020 at 3:15 p.m. by Dr. Sofiane Bendoukha, who will talk about the new JupyterHub installation for interactive access to compute resources and data. Jupyter Notebooks have become increasingly popular among different fields of science. A Jupyter Notebook provides a flexible and user-friendly interface to perform interactive (super) computing and eases the creation of reproducible workflows. This includes live code, equations and visualizations. It supports several languages and is named “Jupyter” referring to the mainly used programming languages Julia, Python und R.

DKRZ provides different solutions to launch notebooks on our supercomputer Mistral: ssh scripts or centralized services. During the first talk Dr. Sofiane Bendoukha will introduce the Jupyterhub service at the DKRZ, more precisely the newly deployed release. Jupyterhub is a multi-user server that allows spawning single-user notebook servers via a web browser. The talk focuses the following topics:

  • access and log in to the service
  • launching Jupyter notebooks
  • switching/enabling kernels and interfaces
