The EU wants to emit at least 55 percent fewer greenhouse gases by 2030, and Germany wants to become climate-neutral by 2045. The basis for these political decisions and the implementation of effective measures is based on the findings of climate research. "Climate models clearly show the connection between greenhouse gas emissions by mankind and the warming of the earth," says Professor Mojib Latif as initiator of the new website. "It is important for us as researchers to emphasize that our projections on climate change are not based on speculation, but on scientific laws. That's why any climate protection measure is only worth as much as its concrete contribution to a rapid reduction of greenhouse gases. Because, as we all know, physics is not negotiable," Latif continues.
How are climate models developed and computed? What can we state with the help of climate models, and what can we not state? The first article on the topic on the new website of the DKK will give answers to these and other questions.
The DKK brings together the expertise of Germany's leading research institutions in the field of climate research and climate impact research in Germany. DKRZ - as one of the 25 DKK member institutions - offers with its supercomputer and its data archive the laboratory of German climate research, where climate models can be calculated and their result data can be analyzed, visualized and archived.
