With the global initiative CMIP5 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5), global climate simulations for a new class of climate scenarios were created for the fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR5). Until the fourth IPCC report scenarios of greenhouse gas emission trends were used, now scenarios of concentration pathways are available: the so-called RCP scenarios (Representative Concentration Pathways). Within the European initiative EURO-CORDEX (Coordinated Downscaling Experiment for Europe), several of these global simulations were regionalized with (dynamic) regional climate models. In the project ReKliEs-De, these simulations will be systematically evaluated for Germany (including the river basins draining into Germany) and completed by selected further simulations (using both dynamic and statistical methods). The project goal is to derive robust information on the bandwidths and possible extremes of future climate change in Germany, in particular for the investigation of climate impacts and adaptation measures as well as policy advice.
