The goal of NextGEMS is to develop and apply a new generation of global coupled storm-resolving Earth system models (SR-EMS).
NextGEMS will bring two prototype existing SR-ESM prototypes, the ECMWF model and the ICON-based MPI-M model to production maturity and produce multi-decadal (30-year) projections of future climate. DKRZ will contribute its experience with the high-scale ICON model, gained in particular in the HDCP2, ESiWACE and ESCAPE2 projects, to the project.
