In Coming Decade, climate prediction for several years into the future is being advanced using ICON. Various experts from UHH, MPI-M, KIT, UBonn and FU Berlin are working on a pre-operational system that can be handed over to the German Weather Service. The DKRZ has a decisive infrastructural role in which the forecast backend, i.e. the creation of the forecast from the model data and its evaluation using the DKRZ analysis platform Freva, is being developed.
