For this purpose, scientists of DKRZ co-jointly with colleagues of the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven (AWI) and the Institute of Data Science at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Jena are developing a series of analysis tools so that researchers and prospectively the general public can access, analyze and visualize Arctic data online.

While the teams of AWI and DLR plan to develop online analysis tools and software that take into account the different habits and requirements of the scientific disciplines involved, DKRZ will mainly focus on the technical background. In the future, researchers will have access to the data itself as well as to the newly developed online tools for its analysis and visualization via a browser. DKRZ's task is to develop and operate this platform so that it functions smoothly even with very large numbers of users.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for three years with around 2 million Euros.
