The Frontier system at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the USA has been leading the TOP500 as the only exascale computer in the list for a year and a half now. However, again no figures were reported from China, although several exascale systems are might be operated there.
The fastest high-performance computer in Europe remains Lumi from Finland on rank 5, which has been upgraded by another 70 PetaFLOPS to 380 PetaFLOPS. Germany is represented in the list with a total of 36 HPC systems. The most powerful German supercomputer is the JUWELS Booster system at the Forschungszentrum Jülich (rank 18), followed by the SuperMUC-NG at the Leibniz Computing Center (rank 40), Hawk at the HLRS (rank 42) and SuperMUC-NG Phase 2 at the Leibniz Computing Center (rank 52), as well as the fifth strongest German system Levante on DKRZ (rank 74).
In addition to the publication of the TOP500 list, SC23 is offering a wide-ranging technical and scientific HPC program as well as numerous network opportunities. Under the slogan “I am HPC”, central topics such as algorithms, applications, cloud computing, data analysis, visualization, storage, architectures, networks, machine learning, programming as well as software systems are presented and discussed by the 10,000 participants.
The DKRZ is represented with a research poster. On behalf of his team, Johannes Meuer presents deep learning approaches for the development of climate models as digital twins of the Earth with the poster “HPC Accelerated Generative Deep Learning Approach for Creating Digital Twins of Climate Models”.
