It will bring together PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and professionals. The hackathon addresses one of the major challenges in today’s climate research: efficiently analysing increasingly large and distributed datasets generated by high-resolution climate simulations and large ensemble experiments.

The EXPECT project is developing solutions to this technical challenge, and participants will have the opportunity to apply these tools directly to real scientific challenges.

Participants will work in small groups on hands-on projects focused on key research topics, including atmospheric circulation changes linked to European heat extremes, deep learning applications for climate science, climate data downscaling using the ECMWF Weather Generator, and explainable AI approaches to identify drivers of climate change.

The event is aimed at early-career and experienced researchers interested the latest advances in climate data infrastructures for process-based and data-driven climate research. Attendance is free of charge, and limited travel support is available for selected participants to encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly for applicants from low-income or widening countries.

Registration needs to be completed before 18 May 2026.
