The DKRZ team spent five days there working on improvements to the GPU version of the ICON ocean model. The model's time loop has been optimized so that the GPU code can run more efficiently. Furthermore, the separation of numerical code parts - such as the equation solver and vertical mixing scheme used in ICON - was examined. Creating interfaces can reduce the effort to use other GPU-optimized solvers or schemes.
