10.04.2025
With approximately 16,000 expected participants, the EGU is the largest European meeting in the field of geosciences – especially for young researchers. It offers an interdisciplinary forum for exchanging the latest research findings, innovative methods, and socially relevant issues. This year's highlights include a NASA press conference on its Juno mission, sessions on climate hazards, offshore mining, and translating research into policy, as well as on climate change, air quality, and innovative environmental solutions. A symposium on "Gender in the Geosciences" is slo scheduled.
Hamburg Climate Research Hands-On: At Booth #18
At the joint information booth #18 in the entrance hall, the DKRZ, ESMO, and the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) at the University of Hamburg will present their work. DKRZ and CEN stand for climate and sustainability research "made in Hamburg." The DKRZ provides high-performance computers and data storage. ESMO, located at the DKRZ, coordinates modeling and observation activities within the framework of the World Climate Research Program. CEN is home to the Cluster of Excellence "Climate, Climate Change and Society" (CLICCS) at the University of Hamburg.
At the booth, the DKRZ team will show the latest, storm-resolving climate visualizations on an interactive climate globe and a touch table. Visitors can choose between various climate simulations and discuss them with the experts.
The DKRZ is involved in many research and infrastructure projects, such as natESM, AquaInfra, ESiWACE, WarmWorld, CLINT, Expect, EOSC, FairCore4EOSC, EERIE, and many more. Contact persons from many of these projects will be available at the DKRZ booth to answer questions and participate in discussions.
Booths #18, #19 and #21: A strong network in Earth system sciences
Next to the DKRZ booth the NFDI4Earth (no. #19) and at the joint booth (no. #21) )"terrabyte" of the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are located. Together, all three exhibitors represent a strong network in Earth system sciences from over 60 German institutions.
During the conference breaks, experts from the three booths will be available for pitch talks to discuss cross-institutional activities and projects. The DKRZ team has has scheduled the following pitches:
- ESMO: Monday, April 28, at 1:15 (CEST)
- FairCoreEOSC project: Tuesday, April 29, at 1:15 (CEST)
- AquaInfra project: Wednesday, April 30, at 10:15 (CEST)
- ESiWACE Cluster of Excellence: Thursday, May 1, at 3:45 (CEST)
