07.04.2026

With around 20,000 participants both on-site and online, the EGU is the largest event in European geosciences. Researchers from across Europe and worldwide, particularly early-career scientists, from various disciplines come together here to present current findings and engage in interdisciplinary discussions. The range of topics includes hydrology and meteorology, remote sensing, natural hazards, geomorphology, tectonics, and volcanology.

The German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ) at Booth #23

At booth #23 in the entrance hall, the DKRZ will present its work and mission as a partner for climate research, as well as current projects and collaborations. Among other things, they will be showcasing visualizations of high-resolution climate simulations on an climate globe and a touch table. Visitors can explore various simulations and discuss them with the DKRZ team.

Under the title "Fantastic Climate Model Grids - a visual journey through simulation output," Fabian Wachsmann and Andrej Fast will present how climate data can be displayed directly on the climate globe. They will demonstrate how data can be visualized on the globe using the Gridlook tool and how interested parties can reproduce this interactive display on their smartphones. In another presentation, they will demonstrate the tools used and the control panel.

DKRZ is involved in a number of national and international research and infrastructure projects, including natESM, ESiWACE, WarmWorld, EERIE, ComingDecade, Regiklim, FUTURA, IPCC-DDC, NFDI4Earth, CLICCS EXPECT, EOSC, and ChatGRT. Representatives from these projects will be available for discussions at the booth.

Dates - Save the Date!
    • Tuesday, May 6, 4:00–6:00 p.m.: "Data, Drinks & Dialogue – Science Meets Repositories" at the booth
    • Thursday, May 8, from 1:00 p.m.: Meet the DKRZ and NFDI4Earth team over coffee at the booth
Booths #23, #24, and #25: A powerful network in Earth system science

Right next to the DKRZ  at booth #23, NFDI4Earth at booth #25 and the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) at booth #24 are located. Together, these three exhibitors represent a strong network in Earth system science with over 60 partner institutions across Germany.

During the conference breaks, experts from the three booths will be hosting pitch talks. In short presentations and personal discussions, they will offer insights into the network's activities, services, collaborations, and current projects.

On May 5, 2026, from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Gizem Ekinci from the DKRZ team will present the project "ChatGRT: An AI-based Assistant for Climate Research". Initiated in 2025, the project aims to significantly simplify the analysis of geoscientific research data through the use of artificial intelligence.
