These model products will fuel climate research for the next 5 to 10 years, while their careful analysis will form the basis for future climate assessments and negotiations. With funding through the programme FONA ("Research for sustainable development") of the German Ministry for Research and Education, BMBF, the DKRZ is strongly engaged in CMIP6 data management. Furthermore, DKRZ contributes to the development and operation of the software infrastructure and carries out scenario simulations.

With respect to the public relations for the coming CMIP6 acivities, WCRP has produced und published a little promotion movie, to which DKRZ contributed with camera shots of its supercomputer Mistral and its data archive as well as with numerous visualizations. One of these visualizations, specifically produced for this movie, illustrates for the two extreme scenarios RCP2.6 and RCP8.5 the projected 2m-temperature change based on the CMIP5 multi-model ensemble. By applying a semi-transparent gray shaded overlay for areas with little statistical significance, the remaining robust areas (strong agreement among the models) are emphasized by clear colors. The CMIP video is available on YouTube as a long (4'10") and a short (2'29") version.
