10.02.2026

The experienced Python team consisting of Ralf Müller, Jannek Squar, Marco Kulüke, Nils-Arne Dreier, and Karin Meier-Fleischer was supported this time by Chathurika Hemamali Wickramage.

Participants came from a wide range of renowned research and educational institutions, including the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, University of Hamburg, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, the Alfred Wegener Institute, the German Weather Service, the German Aerospace Center, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Climate Service Center Germany, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, as well as numerous other universities in Germany and abroad.

Since the course was first launched, more than 500 students, scientists, and project partners have gained hands-on experience with Linux and JupyterHub environments and learned the fundamentals of Python as well as key libraries for data analysis and visualization. Once again, the many short practical exercises were rated very positively, as they helped participants to directly consolidate what they had learned. The interactive format and the opportunity to ask questions directly to the instructors significantly lowered the barrier to getting started with Python.

In addition to the long-standing team members Ralf Müller, Jannek Squar, Marco Kulüke, Nils-Arne Dreier, and Karin Meier-Fleischer, Chathurika Hemamali Wickramage also contributed to the Python team this time.

The next course is planned for autumn 2026.
