DAAD-Science-Tour 2014 visiting MPI-M and DKRZ

DAAD Science Tour visit at DKRZ

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) organized a tour to cutting-edge research facilities in northern Germany which specialize in the field of modelling future scenarios. 26 researchers from 16 countries participated in this weeklong science tour "Modelling the Future - Understanding Global Challenges through Computer-Based Modelling and Simulation”.

The tour started with a visit to the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) on December 1, 2014. Both institutions are part of CliSAP, the cluster of excellence for “Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction” in Hamburg.

Prof. Thomas Ludwig, Michael Böttinger (both DKRZ) and Dr. Hauke Schmidt (MPI-M) presented an overview on the current state and recent developments in the fields of high performance computing, data storage, visualization and Earth system modelling. Additionally, the visitors took the opportunity to get a tour to the DKRZ’s supercomputer and data archive.
