The five-day course on "Data Management in Environmental & Earth Science Infrastructures" was hosted from July 9 to 13 by two major research infrastructures, ENVRIplus and Lifewatch. DKRZ’s Claudia Martens joined forces with Barbara Magnana from the Environment Agency Austria, and Markus Stocker from the TIB Hannover, to teach a lecture on "Cataloguing and Provenance". Despite the heat, the twenty participants from more than seven countries contently listened to the lecture and afterwards successfully applied their newly acquired knowledge in practice sessions. For participants and lecturers alike, the findings of the 2018 Summer School underlined once again the importance of high quality data management as the mandatory basis for interdisciplinary academic and scientific work, especially in the data-rich environmental and earth sciences.
