As one of about 150 exhibitors, DKRZ presented its infrastructure at booth no. L-440: its supercomputers and data storage devices, which are tailor-made for German climate research, as well as its services for optimal and efficient use of the resources. DKRZ is a competent partner in numerous German and European projects. At the booth visitors could get information about the European center of excellence for European weather and climate modeling (ESiWACE), which is coordinated by DKRZ. The climate globe showed the latest climate visualizations, which were simulated and visualized at DKRZ.
At its booth No. F-930 the company Intel, in cooperation with DKRZ, presented an interactive visualization based on a cloud-resolving atmospheric model for Germany, which was calculated at DKRZ as part of project HD(CP)². A new Paraview plug-in from Intel (OSPRay) is used for the 3D visualization of the data, which enables photorealistic raytracing in real time.
During the conference Prof. Thomas Ludwig chaired the session "Forecasting the Future Role of HPC in Weather & Climate Prediction" on 20th June. Peter Bauer from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) was invited as keynote speaker for this session.
For the second time the workshop "Energy-Aware High Performance Computing" (EnA-HPC), which is co-organized by Prof. Ludwig, was be held at ISC17.
Another workshop “HPC I/O in the Data Center” as well as the Birds of Feather session“The Virtual Institute of I/O and the IO-500” was chaired by Dr. Julian Kunkel.
The working group „scientific computing“ participated as one of twelve teams in the Student Cluster Competition.
As a partner of the Gauss-Alliance (GA), on 21st June, DKRZ employeesgave talks on the scalability of climate models for the example of HD(CP)2 and on the improvement of in- and output at tth GA booth DKRZ A-1414.
