Wolken: die großen Unbekannten
Wolken- und Aerosolforschung soll Klimamodelle verbessern helfen. Wolken sind komplexe Gebilde mit vielschichtigen Prozessen. Wesentlich dafür, dass sie sich überhaupt entwickeln können, sind Aerosole, deren tatsächlicher Einfluss auf das langfristige Klima wie auch der auf Wolken längst noch nicht geklärt ist. Die Reportage berichtet zum Stand der Forschung über das komplexe Wirkungsgefüge aus Wolken und Aerosolen.

Zwei neue Petaflops-Supercomputer in Deutschland
Der 2014 in Stuttgart installierte Hornet wurde mächtig aufgerüstet und jetzt unter dem neuen Namen Hazel Hen vom Hersteller Cray an das HLRS übergeben. Schon auf der aktuellen Top-500-Liste vom Juli ist auf Platz 56 der Mistral des Deutschen Klimarechenzentrums zu finden.
