The "CMIP7-ark" project addresses the critical need to safeguard US-based contributions to the upcoming seventh phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP7). As the foundational framework for global climate science, CMIP7 provides the standardized multi-model simulations underpinning the next cycle of IPCC Assessment Reports. While data is distributed via the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF), structural vulnerabilities at US science agencies threaten the operational stability of their local data nodes. Any disruption in access would create a critical "data void," severely hindering German research capabilities in high-resolution climate signal detection and comparative Earth system modeling. To proactively counter these risks, DKRZ is establishing an "Emergency Replication Zone" to mirror high-priority US data streams immediately upon publication, specifically focusing on the CMIP7 Fast Track. Following the "FAIR by Design" principle, the project utilizes global ESGF and CMOR standards to ensure that rescued data remains findable, interoperable, and reusable for the entire scientific community.
