The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) is the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) body responsible for providing scientific and technological advice to support international climate negotiations. Through its annual Research Dialogue, scientists and policymakers come together to exchange knowledge on the latest developments in climate research and discuss their relevance for climate policy and action.

In her presentation, Dr. Adloff highlighted ongoing efforts within the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) to strengthen capacity development and increase the participation of researchers from developing countries across WCRP activities. She presented initiatives aimed at reducing barriers to participation in climate science, including leadership development programs, training opportunities, access to climate data and computing resources, and efforts to strengthen international scientific networks.

The presentation emphasized that inclusive participation is essential for advancing globally relevant climate science and supporting climate adaptation and resilience worldwide. It also showcased WCRP’s commitment to empowering the next generation of climate scientists and leaders through equitable access to scientific opportunities, infrastructure and international collaboration.

Through its hosting of the ESMO International Project Office, DKRZ continues to contribute to international climate research coordination, community building and capacity development within the global climate science community.
