Key topics included the integration of new modeling approaches, the optimization of interfaces, and the long-term sustainability of natESM. Interactive sessions focused on challenges and solutions related to process coupling, the integration of machine learning, and the future of atmospheric chemistry and aerosol modeling were discussed. Additionally, discussions explored how impact models can be better integrated into natESM and which technical decisions are necessary for the next development phase.
Alongside two keynote talks, the workshop provided a platform for in-depth discussions on topics such as the restructuring of the sprint process and strategic approaches for expanding the use of natESM. Once again, the exchange underscored the importance of close cooperation between research and software development in building a sustainable, adaptable, and high-performance Earth system modeling framework for Germany.
