DKRZ offers Deep Learning Workshop again

The workshop was originally planned as an annual event. However, strong interest in the workshop and positive feedback from participants led DKRZ to bring forward the next edition. The renewed offering reflects the growing interest in applying deep learning to climate research and the need for practical opportunities to develop the necessary skills.

During this workshop, participants are introduced to the theoretical foundations of machine learning, with a focus on deep learning, before applying their newly gained knowledge in hands-on coding sessions. They develop and evaluate their own models for climate applications such as classification, gap-filling and statistical downscaling. In addition, the workshop now includes new sessions focusing on advanced deep learning approaches for climate science, with hands-on exploration of probabilistic and transformer-based models.

The workshop is organized by DKRZ and co-hosted by Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon. By combining lectures, practical exercises and opportunities for exchange, it gives researchers the opportunity to develop skills they can apply directly to their own research.
