The Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 7 (CMIP7) is an internationally coordinated project aimed at creating a collection of climate simulations that further our understanding of changes in our climate system.
CAP7 is a collaborative effort under the coordination of the Germany's National Meteorological Service (DWD) and is supported by six further German partners, among them DKRZ. CAP7 is dedicated to making a robust, high-quality, and highly visible national contribution to CMIP7 of the World Climate research Programme (WCRP) with the Earth system models developed and applied in Germany. This contribution will include climate model results for the CMIP7 DECK simulations (DECK short for: Diagnostic, Evaluation, and Characterization of Climate), which include simulations of an undisturbed climate and the historical development from 1850 to the present, as well as simulations of various future scenarios. These model outputs will be post-processed and standardized to support FAIR data standards, and evaluated using an enhanced Earth System Model Evaluation Tool (ESMValTool).
DKRZ will be directly involved in the post-processing effort, aiding in the preparation of model output for archival and release to the public, as well as facilitating use by end users of the CMIP7 products.
