The new coupling software YAC for Earth system models
The new, freely available software library YAC 1.2.0 (short for: Yet Another Coupler) has been developed by the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) to realize an efficient coupling of Earth system model components.

French minister of science visits university of Hamburg
On 1st September 2017, the French Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Prof. Frédérique Vidal, visited the University of Hamburg. Her special interest was in the field of climate research. Previously, Vidal and her German colleague, Johanna Wanka, have agreed in Paris to work more closely on central future issues with a special focus on international climate and energy research.

Über 2500 Besucher bei der NdW im Geomatikum
Mehr als 32.000 Wissensdurstige besuchten hamburgweit am 4. November 2017 zur Nacht des Wissens die 58 Hochschulen, Forschungseinrichtungen und Institute, die insgesamt über 1.000 Programmpunkten anboten. Jeder zwölfte Besucher schaute bei den Aktionen der Klima- und Erdsystemforschung im Geomatikum vorbei oder machte gleich mit.

Interactive web-visualization of IPCC scenario simulations
The new interactive web visualization platform www.dkrz.de/webvis enables internet users to explore interactively and visually possible future climate changes using their web browsers. The platform displays simulated climate changes from scenario simulations on a rotatable and scalable virtual globe. To date, the data available for visualization include simulated changes in temperature and precipitation over time. For a direct comparison, different scenarios or seasons can be displayed side by side. The data originate from simulations with the earth system model MPI-ESM carried out with respect to the fifth IPCC assessment report.
