Kick-off for PalMod: A national paleo climate modelling initiative
With the kick-off meeting on February 1./2. at the Hafencity University Hamburg, the PalMod project has started its ambitious goals to simulate a complete glacial cycle - from the last interglacial to the anthropocene. The PalMod project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science (BMBF) to understand climate system dynamics and variability during the last glacial cycle.

Schülerinnen und Schüler erhalten Ende September gleich bei zwei parallel stattfindenden Veranstaltungen die Möglichkeit, ihr Wissen zum Thema Klima, Klimawandel und Nachhaltigkeit zu erweitern. Dieses Wissen ist für junge Menschen besonders wichtig, da sie der Klimawandel in Zukunft betreffen wird und sie mit diesem Wissen schon jetzt bessere Entscheidungen einfordern können – insbesondere von der Politik.

Mistral on rank 33 of the TOP500-list
The latest TOP500 list of supercomputers was released this morning (20th June) during the opening to the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), which takes place in Frankfurt, Germany, from 19th to 23rd June 2016. With a peak performance of 3.14 PetaFLOPS, the final stage of DKRZ’ system Mistral is listed on rank 33. Within Germany it is at the moment the fifth largest HPC system.

Mistral on rank 38 of TOP500 list
The latest TOP500 list of the world's most powerful supercomputers was published during the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC’17), which took place in Frankfurt from 19th till 22nd June. The supercomputer Mistral at DKRZ is listed on rank 38 of the list and is currently the third most powerful HPC system in Germany. DKRZ will again contribute to the program of the ISC'17 – one of the most important international events for High Performance Computing.
