Visualization with Vapor - Hands-on 1 Day Workshop November25th 2015

Vapor is a free available 3D visualization software that is developed by NCAR. It is exceptionally well suited for the visualization and analysis of WRF and POP climate data sets, and through a recent extension now also accessible for large and very large ICON/MPAS data.

Visualization Workshop in November

On Wednesday, November 25th, DKRZ hosts its first visualization workshop dedicated to the 3D visualization software Vapor. Through a recent extension, Vapor can now also be employed for the visualization of large and extremely large ICON/MPAS data sets. In this workshop, we show how to load and work with large ICON data (atmosphere and ocean), explain the general workflow and guide our users from the initial steps towards the final visualization. An example can be seen in the image below, which visualizes liquid cloud water from a very large HDCP2 simulation.

We will be working with example ICON data sets, but you are welcome to "bring" your own data, as there will be time to also work with these data sets.

  • Basic Linux knowledge
  • Account on Mistral
  • Own laptop with shell, ssh and vncviewer.

Please register for the workshop below. Depending on availability, the workshop will probably be limited to 30 seats. First come, first serve.

Registration is closed
