From October 11. to October 13., 2016, the DKRZ / the CliSAP Climate Visualization Laboratory hosts a 3-day hands-on tutorial workshop on the data analysis and 2D visualization software "NCL", a scripting language developed by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).
Content: This is a beginner level workshop which is focused on the use of NCL for the visualization of 2D gridded model or observational data. The tutorial covers the following content:
- NCL language basics
- Scalar techniques (XY-, Contour-, Slice-, Bar Chart-plots)
- Plot layout (Panels, Overlays, Annotations, Maps)
- Creating animations
More advanced topics, specifically help with visualizing your own data can be covered on the third workshop day.
Prerequisites:
- Basic Linux/Unix and programming experiences are strongly recommended.
- You are asked to bring your own laptops with you. After the workshop registration you will receive an email with instructions for the installation of NCL on your laptop. Installation is possible on Windows (via Cygwin), Linux and Mac OSX. Please let us know if you won't be able to bring a laptop with you.
Lecturers: Karin Meier-Fleischer (DKRZ) and Mary Haley (NCAR), supported by Michael Böttinger (DKRZ).
Workshop schedule: See here (preliminary).
The maximum number of participants is 30. Registration for this tutorial workshop must be done via this website (first come - first serve).
NOTE: By now (August 3rd, 2016) we have already received 30 registrations. However, if you are interested, you may want to register anyway to get on the waiting list.
