SSH connection inactivity timeouts

Sep 28, 2021

Dear users,

some of you may have experienced ssh connection loss/timeouts to or from our systems after 30 minutes of inactivity.

This was due to the fact that the new firewall software version ignores our global change of the ssh timeout to 3 hours for all connections which we had before, thus the default timeout of 30 minutes applied.

We have now applied new firewall policies which should assign a 3 hour inactivity timeout again to all ssh connections you need. They apply to all connections started after 8:45 German time.

All common operating systems automatically start a tcp keepalive after 2 hours of inactivity which will keep your ssh connections active even after more than 3 hours of inactivity.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Best regards,
