New Archival System at DKRZ: migration from 8 to 18 Oct 2021

Sep 17, 2021

Dear users,

As already announced, a migration from HPSS to the new StrongLink HSM system will take place this year. We will migrate in CW 41. The schedule is as follows: the tape archive at DKRZ will not be accessible from Friday 8 Oct, 8:00 AM, until Monday 18 Oct.

There is only a small fraction of disk space left on the lustre filesystem (/work and /scratch) and we have to be careful not to completely fill it up. Some of you might plan to produce large amounts of data during the migration period and would commonly write these data directly to tape. Please consider clearing disk space beforehand to be able to accomodate all data produced in the particular time period.

To support your changeover we will offer an online HSM Q&A session each Thursday from 11:30 to 12:30 AM starting from 30 Sept onwards. A meeting URL will be posted on when the session approaches.

If you want to try out slk, the tool which replaces pftp, in advance, you are welcome to do so. We have set up an HSM/StrongLink training system running on a virtual machine for this purpose. There is no tape system connected to the training system and users must not archive files larger than a few megabytes. A description for the first usage is provided here:

We have prepared several resources for you, which are updated continuously:
