To the WDCC Data Portal CERA and the user services

The World Data Center for Climate (WDCC) is hosted by the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) in Hamburg and is maintained by its Data Management department.

Mission of the WDC for Climate

The World Data System (WDS, see below) is an international effort to set up domain specific data archives as services for the scientific community. The WDC for Climate collects, stores, and disseminates Earth System data with a focus on climate simulation data and climate related data products.

WDCC's mission is closely related to that of DKRZ's data management: Long Term Archival, cataloguing, curation, and publishing of climate model output from globally distributed providers. This comprises quality checks and provision of Permanent Identifiers to make the data reusable and citable. Included are various kinds of user services for the German, European, and global climate research communites.

About the ICSU World Data System As World Data Centre the WDCC is member of the ICSU World Data System (WDS) which was created by the 29th General Assembly of the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 2008 and it complies with the WDS data sharing principles, i.e., full, open, timely, nondiscriminatory data and metadata access. The WDS builds on the 50-year legacy of the former ICSU World Data Centres (WDCs) and former Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical data-analysis Services (FAGS). In 2003 the WDCC had been approved as WDC for the first time; it was re-approved in 2014. In addition it qualified for the data seal of approval.
