About the ICSU World Data System

As World Data Centre the WDC for Climate is member of the ICSU World Data System (WDS) which was created by the 29th General Assembly of the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 2008. The WDS builds on the 50-year legacy of the former ICSU World Data Centres (WDCs) and former Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical data-analysis Services (FAGS). In 2003 the WDCC had been approved as WDC for the first time, it was re-approved in 2014. In addition it qualified for the data seal of approval.

Mission of the WDC for Climate

As part of an international effort to set up domain specific data portals as a service for the scientific community, climate data are collected,  stored at DKRZ and disseminated through the World Data Center Climate (WDCC).

The WDCC focuses on climate and climate related data products, specifically those resulting from climate simulations. Archival of raw data from satellites or climate models is not desired.

The WDCC is maintained by the department Data Management at the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ).
