Almost 14,500 attendees from more than one hundred countries came together at the annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), which took place from 23rd until 28th April 2017 in Vienna/Austria. Scientists presented their work and projects in about 6,000 orals and PICO presentations as well as in more than 11,000 poster contributions. DKRZ employees participated with various activities to the EGU program.

DKRZ presents on its ISC'15 High Performance booth no. 550 its new high performance computer HLRE-3 (Hochleistungsrechnersystem für die Erdsystemforschung 3) consisting of the PetaFLOPS-System "Mistral" by Bull/Atos and a hierarchical storage management system (HSM) based on HPSS by IBM. During the ISC’15 the latest Top500 List of the most powerful high performance computer systems is released. The first configuration level of Mistral at DKRZ is on rank 56 of the list. In Germany it is the sixth-largest HPC system.

DKRZ@Klimawoche 2012
Die vierte Hamburger Klimawoche lädt Besucher ein, sich vom 24. bis zum 30. September in der Hafencity bei über 100 Akteuren über erneuerbare Energien, Nachhaltigkeit, Klimaforschung, -schutz sowie –anpassung zu informieren. Am Wochenende zeigt das DKRZ gemeinsam mit dem Max-Planck-Institut für Meteorologie, dem KlimaCampus, dem Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht sowie dem Climate Service Center und dem Norddeutschen Klimabüro Ergebnisse aus der Klimaforschung im Unilever-Haus.

The this year's Supercomputing Conference (SC13) takes place from the 16th till 22nd November 2013 in Denver. More than 10,000 scientists, users, vendors and decision makers as well as more than 350 exhibitors attend the most important international conference on high performance computing that celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. DKRZ, looking back on 26 years of climate computing, invites visitors to go on a journey back in time through 25 years of DKRZ at its booth (number 329).

DKRZ@SC’12 in Salt Lake City / USA
Vom 10. bis 16. November nimmt das DKRZ wieder mit diversen Aktivitäten an der diesjährigen Supercomputing Conference (SC’12) in Salt Lake City, mit über 10 000 Teilnehmern die größte Fachkonferenz zum Hochleistungsrechnen weltweit, teil. Als einer von über 350 Ausstellern informiert das DKRZ die Konferenzteilnehmer auf einem eigenen Informationsstand (Nr. 3840) über aktuelle Fortschritte im Hochleistungsrechnen, Data Intensive Computing sowie über Ergebnisse aus der Klimamodellierung. Darüber hinaus spricht Prof. Thomas Ludwig in der Session „Green Computing“ über die Kosten der Klimaforschung. Zum zweiten Mal auf einer SC organisiert das DKRZ, gemeinsam mit der University of Minnesota, dem Pacific Northwest National Laboratory und Cray Inc., einen Workshop zum Thema „Climate Knowledge Discovery“.

EnA-HPC 2012 in Hamburg
Am 12. September 2012 fand bereits zum dritten Mal die „Conference on Energy-Aware High Performance Computing 2012“ (EnA-HPC 2012) in Hamburg statt. Die Konferenz wurde von der Universität Hamburg in enger Kooperation mit dem Deutschen Klimarechenzentrum und der Gauß-Allianz organisiert und widmete sich einer der größten Herausforderungen im Hochleistungsrechnen: dem Energieverbrauch bzw. der Energieversorgung der Rechnersysteme.

ESGF Achievement Award
On the occasion of the „Earth System Grid Federation and Ultrascale Visualization Climate Data Analysis Tools Conference”, which took place from December 9th-12th, 2014, at the PCMDI of the Lawrence Livermore National Lab, DKRZ staff member Torsten Rathmann received an “ESGF Outstanding Achievement Award 2014” for the unfailing support he delivered to the users of the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF).
