ESiWACE2 is the second phase of the "Center of Excellence in Science of Weather and Climate in Europe" funded by EU as one of the "Centres of Excellence in computing applications". Like its predecessor project ESiWACE, ESIWACE2 is coordinated by DKRZ (Joachim Biercamp). The goal of the second funding phase is to prepare internationally leading European applications for the next generation of computers ("pre-exascale" and "exascale" systems) to be operated or developed in the EU. The efficient use of such exascale computers for climate models requires enormous demands on the scalability and portability of the models and data processing that they cannot be met by individual institutions. ESiWACE provides a platform for the necessary interdisciplinary and international collaboration.
