The BigStorage project will train data scientists to develop holistic and interdisciplinary solutions to Big Data issues using HPC and cloud technologies. Applications, middlewares and infrastructures will be created that can efficiently handle and analyze Big Data volumes. On the one hand, DKRZ will focus on researching novel I/O interfaces and techniques to reduce energy consumption; on the other hand, I/O requirements of existing Earth system applications will be analyzed and provided to the other project partners in the form of benchmarks.
