The German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ) is the central simulation and data processing facility for the German climate and Earth System modelling community and is one of the leading facilities in this area. DKRZ not only operates supercomputers in the highest performance class and one of the largest data and archive systems worldwide, we also participate in many national and international projects aiming to improve the software and infrastructure for climate modelling.

Currently, we are offering a position as

Software Developer / Scientific Programmer (all genders)

The implementation of the FAIR principles is an important task in research data management and a topic of various projects in which DKRZ is involved. These include the recently launched FAIRCORE4EOSC project.

Your tasks

  • Contribute to the technical implementation of solutions to improve the discoverability and interoperability of climate model data
  • Evaluate new technologies including concept development and assistance in their implementation
  • Improve the usability and user experience of our tools in collaboration with team members and users

Your profile 

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Geoscience or similar fields with strong relation to scientific computing
  • Experience in the use of Python for data modeling, knowledge representation as well as web programming (REST interfaces and GUI)
  • Open source software development skills (git, continuous integration)
  • Basic background in knowledge representation and semantic web
  • Fluent in English. German is a plus.
