The DKRZ (German Climate Computing Center) is a central service provider for German climate and earth system research. With our high performance computers, data storage and services we form the central research infrastructure for simulation-based climate science in Germany. As a key player in numerous national and international research and infrastructure activities we are at the forefront of climate modelling. To effectively manage the vast amounts of data generated by these projects and make it accessible for research, we are seeking to expand our team. Your expertise is needed to support Germany's contributions to the CMIP7 project and other important research initiatives.

We are looking for several passionate

Data Engineers and Data Stewards (all genders) to join our Data Management department for a fixed term of 2-3 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to data standardization, data handling, and data provision for climate research.
  • Collaborate with DKRZ colleagues and scientists to make data collections accessible and usable according to recognized standards.
  • Utilize your skills in climate model data processing, metadata standards, and data processing tools.

Your Profile:

  • Master’s degree in geosciences, computer science or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of climate model data processing, relevant metadata standards (e.g. netCDF/CF) and relevant data processing tools.
  • A passion for open-source software development, with a strong preference for Python and experience handling large datasets.
  • Experience with various storage technologies (e.g. tape, cloud) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, taking responsibility in small teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a focused and structured approach to work.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus.
