Das Deutsche Klimarechenzentrum (DKRZ) ist die zentrale Simulations- und Datenverarbeitungseinrichtung für die deutsche Klima- und Erdsystemmodellierung und gehört zu den führenden Einrichtungen in diesem Bereich. Das DKRZ betreibt nicht nur Supercomputer der höchsten Leistungsklasse und eines der größten Daten- und Archivsysteme weltweit, sondern beteiligt sich auch an vielen nationalen und internationalen Projekten zur Verbesserung der Software und Infrastruktur für die Klimamodellierung.

Software Engineer / Scientific Programmer (all genders) for HPC Applications

DKRZ contributes to the development of the next generation of high-resolution Earth-system models that will enable a better understanding and mitigation of climate change. These models will be deployed on state-of-the-art super computers.

Your tasks 

As part of an international team and within projects funded by the EuroHPC JU, you will work on the adaption and optimization of climate models for Europe’s largest and most advanced super computers.

Qualifications / Experiences

    • Academic degree with a background in computer science, Earth-system science or mathematics
    • Experience in the programming of parallel HPC systems
    • Experience in high-level programming languages, at least one of C, C++ and Fortran
    • Experience in GPU programming is an advantage
    • English is often our working language, so a good knowledge is required

    And, of course, you should enjoy programming and working with state-of-the-art supercomputers.

    Payment will be in accordance with the German public service positions (TVöD, depending on the qualifications of the candidate and assigned tasks). The conditions of employment follow those of the German civil service.

    Your start at DKRZ can be arranged individually, but is possible immediately. The position will be funded through European projects within the Destination Earth initiative and the Centre of Excellence in Computing Applications, ESiWACE3. It is initially limited until 31.12.2026.
