SeaDataCloud Kickoff

Dec 12, 2016: From 28th to 30th of November 2016 the kickoff meeting of the Horizon2020 project SeaDataCloud took place in Riga. One focus of this project, involving 55 partners from 34 countries, is the further development of existing services and standards for research data from the SeaDataNet network, in which more than hundred oceanographic data centers have been organized.

Mistral on rank 34 of TOP500 list

Nov 16, 2016: The latest TOP500 list of the world's most powerful supercomputers was published on 14th November during the Supercomputing Conference (SC’16), which takes place in Salt Lake City / USA from 13th till 18th November. With a LINPACK performance of 3.01 PetaFLOPS, the final stage of the supercomputer Mistral at DKRZ is listed on rank 34 of the list and is currently the third most powerful HPC system in Germany.

Workshop des Schulprojekts Klimawandel statt. Vor fast 250 Oberstufen-Schülerinnen und -Schülern, Lehrkräften und Unterstützern des Projekts sowie den Vertretern des Projektteams trugen Schülergruppen von vier Schulen in Schleswig-Holstein ihre Ausarbeitungen über selbstgewählte Themen zum Klimawandel vor.

Mistral: Final expansion stage of the high-performance computer at DKRZ starts operation

Jul 07, 2016: On June 28th, 2016, company Atos/Bull handed over the second expansion stage of supercomputer Mistral to the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) in Hamburg. Since July 4th, 2016, the third „High-performance computing system for Earth system research“ (HLRE-3), with a peak performance of approximately 3.5 quadrillion numerical operations per second, has been available to the climate research community.

Jun 20, 2016: The latest TOP500 list of supercomputers was released this morning (20th June) during the opening to the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), which takes place in Frankfurt, Germany, from 19th to 23rd June 2016. With a peak performance of 3.14 PetaFLOPS, the final stage of DKRZ’ system Mistral is listed on rank 33. Within Germany it is at the moment the fifth largest HPC system.

Feb 03, 2016: With the kick-off meeting on February 1./2. at the Hafencity University Hamburg, the PalMod project has started its ambitious goals to simulate a complete glacial cycle - from the last interglacial to the anthropocene. The PalMod project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science (BMBF) to understand climate system dynamics and variability during the last glacial cycle.
