The German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ) is the central data processing facility for the German climate and Earth system modeling community and is one of the leading facilities in this area. DKRZ operates supercomputers of the highest performance class, modern high-performance clusters and graphics systems as well as one of the largest data and archive systems worldwide.

In the context of a European project (EOSC-Pillar) we are looking for a

Solution Architect and Developer for python based data handling (all genders)

In order to achieve scientific goals in climate research, efficient data management, especially of large amounts data volumes is increasingly becoming an essential prerequisite.

You will design and prototype use cases for climate data management and processing which focus on interdisciplinary and inter-community application scenarios. In cooperation with other earth science research communities common data cataloguing and data processing solutions will be prototyped reflecting FAIR data guidelines and using emerging community software stacks (e.g. pangeo). 

For this exciting position, you bring in a master degree in Computational Science or Earth System Science, ideally complemented by skills from a variety of areas:

  • Excellent Python development experience, ideally in the context of earth science data
  • Experience in interpretation and management of earth science data (mostly based on the netcdf-cf data standard)
  • Experience in implementing scientific data management workflows

We expect capacity for teamwork in an interdisciplinary environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the willingness to travel nationally and internationally. At DKRZ, we recognise that training is vital for developing staff so you will have access to courses to increase the depth and breadth of skills you have.

The contract is limited until February 2022. Payment will be in accordance with the German public service positions (TVöD/B according to the applicants qualifications), including extensive social security plans. The conditions of employment follow those of the German civil service.
