The climate depends on the state of various components of the earth system and interactions between these subsystems. Since we cannot experiment with the earth, computer simulations are a valuable tool in order to gain a better unterstanding of these complex processes: i.e. the circulation of atmosphere and ocean, and the physical, chemical and biological interactions and processes.
The German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ) acts as a "laboratory for climate researchers". It offers the high performance computing capacity, associated services and support neccessary for the investigation of past and future climate.
