LTA

Please follow the steps below if you want to place data into the long term archive (LTA) at DKRZ:

1. The user contacts the master user or the project manager and confirms the transfer and quota of project data into the LTA.

2. The user contacts DKRZ 'Datamangement' at data@dkrz.de to initiate the archiving process, providing the following data:

  - name of the user

  - project name and number

  - mail address and phone number of institute

  - mail address and phone number of project contact

  - total disk space required

  - a list of data including requested total size (see topic 2.)

  - additional useful project information

3. Create a list of files to be copied into our LTA. Files residing either in HPSS or blizzard:/work are applicable.

A weekly updated file called  "_PROJECT.<prj>.file-list.GIGA"  containing a list of all files stored in your project  is located in directory  /hpss/arch/<prj>  resp.  /hpss/double/<prj>  and can be fetched from HPSS via  pftp.

5. You will receive a notification once your data has been copied into the LTA and the metadata has been published within CERA. Metadata will be publically available on the internet, all data will be freely accessible for people with DKRZ or CERA account.

The DKRZ department 'Datamangement' will guide you through the complete process and will make recommendations for any upcoming questions (e.g. archiving format etc.) during the archiving process.
