Data Management
DKRZ runs a system especially for scientific data management services. Data resulting from simulations at DKRZ need to be further processed before delivering the data to scientific users through a relational database management system.
The main tasks of the system:
Pre-and post-processing in terms of long-term data storage in the CERA climate database or the World Data Center for Climate (WDCC)- Storage of essential WDCC data on a parallel file system
- Integration of data ressources into national and international climate data federations
- Deployment of portal services to the databases
Technically, the data management system is based on a Blade Center by Dell, whose servers are set up on different virtual machines and a 1.2 petabyte storage system of DDN.
