Data Archive
DKRZ has to archive about 10 PetaBytes (10 000 TeraByte) model results per year, resulting from the simulations on its high performance computers.
To ensure a continuous flow of climate data between the high-performance computers and the archive system, DKRZ runs one of the largest and most powerful data archives in the world.
The archive system at a glance:
- HPSS - High Perfomance Storage System
- 7 automated Oracle/StorageTek SL8500 tape libraries
- 8 robots per library
- more then 67 000 slots for magnetic tape cassettes
- 88 tape drives
- more than 100 PetaByte total capacity
- bidirectional bandwidth of 3 GigaByte/s (sustained), 5 GigaByte/s (peak)
